Three Things Thursday

1. This morning, after I put James on the school bus and then GOT OFF THE SCHOOL BUS I bawled like a baby for the whole walk home. And then for about 20 more minutes. I am having a really rough time with this one. And it's so unexpected! I mean, he went to school last year too, but watching that bus drive away ripped my heart out...

2. So I did what any normal runner would do - I registered for another race. What can I say? Races are like my crack. I don't have a shopping problem, I have a "registering for races" problem. Fort2Base is an inaugural 10 nautical mile race being held on September 11. What better way to commemorate such a tragic day in our nation's history! And wonky race distance = automatic PR.

3. As much as races are my crack, I have really really lost my running mojo. I am kind of burnt out. So I'm going out for a run, both to pass the time until the bus brings my baby back, and to try to find my mojo again. It's out there somewhere, I just know it...

  1. It's normal to get burned out on running. Sometimes a few days off will make you feel your mojo coming back.
    The race sounds like fun!

  2. I hope you find your mojo. If anything, maybe you can distract yourself wondering what a nautical mile is. At least that's what I would do.

I can't imagine putting a kid on the bus. I got teary eyed on a walk past a school just thinking of Miles going to kindergarten in FIVE years.

  3. Did you use the Schwaggle coupon that came out today for that race? I'm running the Chicago Half on that day but Fort2Base sounds like fun!

I felt guilty leaving my dog at the groomer so I can't even imagine what you're going though! James will be home soon, though, and I bet he will have had a great day.

  4. With all that you've had going on emotionally lately, it's no surprise that you feel your mojo is gone. A few days off might do the trick.

When Hubby and I were dating (long distance- he in OK, me in MI) he went for a "Consolation Milkshake" after leaving me at the airport. Maybe you should go for one of those? :)

  5. Do the Paleo 30-day challenge thing. I've heard Paleo diets cure everything from acne to cancer, so I'm sure they're good for low mojo, too.

No, I'm *not* suggesting it just because I'm weak and need moral support. :)

  6. When my youngest got on the bus the first day it hit me hard and I wasn't expecting it at all. I totally understand. Good for you for using running as your "drug". That's what I did a lot of times too.

  7. I saw the deal for that race. Aaron really wants to do it so we might see you there!

  8. By the time they are in high school you'll be doing a happy dance the first day of school ;)

Just exactly How far is a nautical mile? Have fun!

  9. I love how much running grounds you. It's such a great outlet when nothing else seems to be going right, including your running (props to you on that one!). Also, you're not alone with the sending kids to school sadness ... I have a number of friends who are in the same boat as you. Hang in there.

  10. Hey! You were supposed to find your mojo this month! What do you think is going on?

I have been thinking about F2B since I first heard about it in the winter! I signed up for the schwaggle (or whatever it's called) but I need to run 22 that weekend, so if I can't get my 22 in, I am going to skip it. And I am not really in the mood for a hunky dory GRC race. (And Steven thought going to a Naval Base on 9/11 was a bad idea...)

  11. Oh, hon. It's hard watching them grow up.

I'm with you on the race/crack problem. And on the new distance=new PR thing. :) My problem is signing up for things just bc the sound fun, regardless of how unprepared I am.

  12. I am so with you on races as crack. I'm signing up for things I have no business running - my latest is a trail race where I have to "find" the route. I'm clueless about how to do that PLUS I am severely directionally challenged so it should be interesting. Luckily it's only 5 miles!

And sending your babies off to school - with you on that one too. I took my oldest baby to school in Arizona and left her there. Tears from both of us when I had to leave her behind and drive the two hours to the airport for my three+ hour flight..... too much distance between us but I know she'll do well.

  13. Yep, a good race is just what you need. Run off those feelings of sadness and get a new (even if it is wonky!) PR!
