1. After running with Kim, and mulling it over, I bit the bullet and joined a local running club (the Grayslake Running Club). And while I am really excited to be running with a group, I am super nervous about running with a group. Yeah, I know, I make SO much sense.
When I'm running solo, it doesn't matter how slow I am. I am totally comfortable in my turtle-ness. At races, I am only comparing myself to me. People passing me has never bothered me.
But I don't want to be the slowpoke in a running club of speedy runners. For some reason, it's different to me - I don't want to hold anyone back, but at the same time, I want to run with a GROUP, not by myself chasing the back of the pack.
So there you have it - my own personal neurosis. I am fairly confident that after I really DO run with them a few times, I'll get over myself. But until then...
2. My brother-in-law will be here this afternoon! YAY!! And I am super excited to see him! But, I confess, I am not a super housekeeper or cook, so I'm kinda nervous about being "on" while he's here. And he'll be here for quite a while.
So I'm (a teeny bit) anxious about that too. Even though I KNOW that he couldn't care less about any of that stuff. It's my own weird hangups rearing their heads.
3. MARATHON TRAINING OFFICIALLY STARTS MONDAY. I am SUPER anxious about that!
But in a totally good way! :)
I cannot WAIT to get back to a training plan. So excited!
You sound totally pumped about everything!
ReplyDeleteI'm ready to run my interval run now!
I've been feeling anxious lately, too. All the promise that 2011 holds for us : there's just so much possibility out there, we just have to seize it!
ReplyDeleteWhich is your next marathon?
I think we all have those worries about holding people back or being the "slow" one. But I'm sure you'll do fine and you'll probably find that being pushed a little makes you into a better runner. Besides, it will be nice to have the company when you want it.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone worries when running with others. You just won't know how it will go until you to it. Also remember that you have good runs and not so good runs when you run solo and you'll have them with the group too. I'm sure you'll find some fast friends who will hang with you and encourage you through each run.
ReplyDeleteMy BIL was at my house last night helping with a project. My sis is a much neater house keeper than I am. I told myself to just remember that he married HER not me so my mess shouldn't matter.
Enjoy getting back to a routine.
I know what you mean. I love running with other people but I get super nervous about slowing people down. I never liked team sports because I don't like letting people down. I think that's my issue with worrying about making people slow down when I run with them. I just feel bad...even though people have their own free will and can go ahead if they want to...I am not actually forcing anything.
ReplyDeleteI need to get back to running. I really miss it but can't seem to figure out how to fit it back in my schedule. I am just so tired from all my extra responsibilities that I feel like I need a normal amount of sleep and can't get out of bed early like I used to. Hopefully soon I will find the time!
I think I share your same concerns with running groups so I usually run alone but running with people would be nice too. I hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteSo cool! I am unofficially starting my marathon training on Monday too. You are running Twin Cities, right?
ReplyDeleteYay for marathon training starting!
ReplyDeleteI know you are nervous, but you are going to love running with the club. There are lots of great people.
And I bet your BiL does not expect to be living in hotel standards, you know what I mean? He is family, he can pitch in, see you in your PJs, help with meals... etc. ;)
Hi! Are you an Illinois girl? I'm from IL, now in San Diego. That snow you guys got was INSANE! I hear it's still freezing there. If you're not in IL, please forget everything I just typed. :)
ReplyDeleteI, too, am a member of a running club. I have been to exactly ONE group run, during which I ran 10 miles by myself. I have not been back.
ReplyDeleteI was worried with my first group run, but usually the head of the group will run with the slowest of the group. At least that's how mine worked. Good luck! I'm sure it's going to be great!
ReplyDeleteSo I joined a running club in college, the slowest person in the club. All the runners had come straight from their high school teams, and I was running really slow. I went out for my first run with the club, a five miler at 8pm. It was totally dark and I was left behind. At about mile 4, I debated turning around to go home and never run with them again. Then the club president, Matt, came to finish out the run with me since he knew I was left behind in the dark. I'd never met him before, but he came back to run together. We became running buddies. Five years later, I married him.
ReplyDeleteLife has ways of surprising you sometimes. Go for it!! :)
Sorry to be an annoying new reader, but what marathon are you training for? And I love that you are excited to train, what a great attitude!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about getting anxious. I did my first race of the year on sat with out my running partner. She keeps me focused so I dont think about the start of a race. But I did it and was proud of my time. 5 miles in 48.32 where last year we did it in 53.13. Good Luck on your training.
