It's always amazing to me how easily my week can be completely derailed. Last week was so stellar, that I temporarily forgot my reality, which is that I have 4 kids, and with 4 kids, shit goes wrong. Often.
Monday was President's day, which means 4 kids home from school, which means no running. The weather was super crappy, so I didn't fell at all bad about pushing that day's run off. But Monday night, James spiked a fever. Lovely. So I kept him home from school on Tuesday. I SHOULD have hauled my ass out of bed early to run, and actually I got up, but John went out to shovel, and while I don't mind running in the dark, running in the dark on icy snowy roads makes me nervous, so I bailed.
Wednesday I got in 5 great miles - James was feeling better, so I got him to school. I got a bunch of shopping done and then I BARELY squeaked in 5 miles. I got back, switched coats, and then ran to school to pick him up a gross sweaty mess. But it was worth it!
Yesterday I should have run while James was at school, but I couldn't make myself get out the door. Do you ever have days like that? I just poked around and put it off and procrastinated until, Damn! Guess I don't have time. But then I felt guilty about it and spent the rest of the day kicking my own ass for my own stupid choices. So I ran in the dark after Jenna's basketball game, and it sucked. But I got it done.
John's home from work today, so I should get my run in later. I have a weird twingey achy thing happening with my right inner shin. I'm not sure what the heck is going on there, but it's freaking me out. Because running lately? Has been OUTSTANDING. My pace is a good minute per mile faster than a year ago, and it's honestly a JOY to be out there, rather than a chore. Most of the time. I don't want to do anything to screw it up...
Oh man, what is going on with your shin? Do you think you are running too fast and have shin splints? :(
ReplyDeleteIt sucks that we all love running so much but have to struggle to get it in. Especially when you have kids! I can't even imagine! I can barely do it with just me and my husband.
Hope James is feeling 100% better!
A freaking minute per mile faster than a year ago.
ReplyDeletefreaking
awesome.
Yes I definitely have days where I putter around and push the run until there's almost no more time to do it. All hell breaks loose if I miss it.
ReplyDeleteHope the kiddos are all ok!
I hope the mystery shin pain vanishes.
OMG ~ cracking up at the comment "kids... shit goes wrong. Often." That is SO how I have to operate. If I have time NOW, I need to do "it" NOW, because SOMETHING BAD WILL HAPPEN if I don't....
ReplyDeleteShin. Yea, I'm going to try not to over react to that comment at all. I'm sitting here wearing a freakin' boot though, so... if it were me, I would ice, rest, comfort, & love on the shin. just sayin'.
AWESOME to the min/mile improvement.
ReplyDeleteDAMN to the shin pain.
I am in awe that you are able to get any runs in with 4 kids to take care of...you are amazing!! :) And a full minute faster?? That rocks!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was running daily pretty consistently I would have days where I would talk myself into skipping a run. I felt guilty about it all day and it turned into a bigger issue than if I had just run and gotten it over with. I know what you are talking about with beating yourself up.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got out for a run. Having 4 kids sure does make things more difficult. As much as I loved having my kids home on their day off, and I really did, it really messed up my study day and kind of threw off my entire week.
It is pretty awesome that you are getting faster! It must feel great to feel like you are accomplishing something and that you are seeing improvement, like it is worth it for all the times you force yourself to go when you aren't quite feeling it. I worded that horribly but I think you know what I mean.
