So Long Weekend! See You Again Soon....

Friday my house shook all afternoon. I had forgotten about the local airshow on Saturday, and the jets and planes were doing maneuvers (read: JACKING UP NAPTIME) for a good 3 hours. BUT. It was really cool to see - they were super close!

Since my house is in a constant state of perpetual chaos, and since my parents were coming, and since my mom is a Type A neat freak, I spent most of Friday and all of Saturday morning trying unsuccessfully to restore order. (The boy. He loves to UNDO WHAT I JUST DID. Over and over). So I tried to focus on "clean" versus "neat." I do the best I can.

Friday afternoon, Jenna had a playdate followed by a volleyball game followed by a sleepover (why do they call them sleepovers? there's no sleeping involved...) which required much schlepping of children from here to there and back again. Everyone was wasted from a full week of school, so whining and drama were again high (and from the 9yo even!). I REALLY wanted to get my long run done Friday night, since the weather report for the next morning was ugly at best, but John didn't get home until it was too late. As an aside, why is it that I can run in complete darkness in the morning, getting FINISHED before sunrise, and it doesn't bother me, but in the evening, it does? Maybe because it's getting darker rather than lighter? Who knows...

SO. Alarm went off Saturday morning during a torrential downpour with thunder and lightening threatening. Damn. So the cleaning commenced anew, with ANOTHER volleyball game and grocery shopping smashed in for good measure. By lunchtime, I was winding down the cleaning, but I was still stress about the long run. But it was clearing up outside, so I took my opportunity when it presented itself, even though that meant it wouldn't be as long as I wanted. I figured some run was better than no run, and I took off down the street (knowing my parents were showing up in 20 minutes).

Maybe it was because my children were making me extra bonkers or maybe because subconsciously I knew I was pressed for time, but it took me 3 miles to slow down. Seriously. I could not for the life of me reign it in! It was a great nearly 7 miles of watching the airshow, remembering 9/11, and SMILING AT PEOPLE! It was really nice to have a midday run and be able to see what I was stepping on.

Back home, stretched minimally, said hi to the 'rents, and was ushered by my now impatient husband to the shower. AND THEN WE WERE FREE!!!!!! It's amazing what one night of freedom can do for your soul. It always recharges me. We went to Gibson's for steak (AMAZING) and ended up sitting at the exact same table we sat in last year (we are creatures of "we know what we like"). We declared it TRADITION and had the waiter snap a picture.

We did very little outside dinner this year. Neither one of us had the energy. Seriously, as in "walk back to the hotel after dinner and lay in food coma in bed and watch Lord of the Ring's number 2 even though we've seen it a MILLION times" kind of lazy. And it was wonderful.

We had a lovely brunch on Sunday and headed home so I could change into pretty clothes and drive with my oldest daughter RIGHT BACK TO THE CITY. Yes I spent a good 5 hours in the car this weekend. What can you do? It was our good friends' bridal shower and they held it at an art gallery. How cool is that? We made it back home just in time for John to head out the door to volunteer at church. He didn't get home until after I had everyone in bed. It was a crazy day.

I got 5 miles in this morning before washing and blowing dry my oldest daughter's hair (it's PICTURE DAY at school) and getting everyone fed and dressed and off to school. Then I collapsed in front of the computer with a pot of coffee. I may or may not be still in my smelly running clothes.

(I tried to upload a video but blogger was being an asshole. Sorry if it doesn't work!)
