Hopeful

Hi, my name is Bobbi, and I haven't worked out in over a month.

This has been such a strange month for me. My feelings about it are all over the place. I started out really really enjoying not working out. Sleeping in on the weekends. Spending all my free time with my family. Trying not to eat all the foodz.

I *whispers quietly* kind of liked it a lot.

So much that half way through I kind of FREAKED THE EFF OUT in my head. Oh my gosh! I LIKE THIS TOO MUCH! I am doomed! I will never remember how to work out again! I am going to turn into a fat squishy couch lump! LAAAAZZZZZZYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahem.

Sorry 'bout that.

So, getting back to what's up with me...on the Friday I said I was probably going to call the doctor, I was feeling amazing and had been for a couple of consecutive days. I thought maybe I'd turned a corner.

Then Friday night I reached for something wrong and oh my gosh and yeah. Notsomuch.

So last week I called and they squished me in on Friday and the short story is nothing is torn (yay!) but lots of stuff is pissed off (duh! and boo!) so here's a shit ton of exercises to do (yay!) and call me in 2 weeks.

PT is hard work yo. I did NOT expect the exercises to rehab a pissed off shoulder would cause me to break a sweat. But yeah. 13 shoulder specific moves, some with light weights or a resistance band, ending up with 30 push ups. Ouch.

These make my shoulder sore, but in a different way - a "I just used my muscles YAY! sort of way. I can feel the difference already. I am sleeping easier (seriously, sleeping has been the WORST! I can never get comfortable). And it feels good to work out again! And I am happy!

And, just maybe, I'll run very soon.

Because despite all my freaking out...

I really really miss it.

  1. Sometimes our bodies just need to rest and be lazy....don't be too hard on yourself.

  3. You're back! Being injured would drive me away too though. I can't hear about everyone else's fun without becoming insanely angry and jealous. I hope PT helps and you can get back out there!

  4. Ha ha! I was like, wait, she said she was worried about not missing it then she didn't finish her thought... oh, there it is, on the bottom!

I am so happy the PT stuff is helping, ESPECIALLY with the sleep. Amen to that! Do you have a follow-up appointment?

I was kind of happy not to do much in January, but it seriously affected my mood. Despite being more tired today from getting up early to run, I am happier :)

  6. Would you like me to ask my husband what he recommends for a sore shoulder? He seems to have a vast medical knowledge. Every time I mention something is ailing me his reply is, "I know what would help that."

    P.S. It never helps.

  7. Gah...so frustrating. Glad you're getting answers and treatment and hope.

And WHAT is wrong with us that we can't just enjoy the layoff without guilt and stress? It must be our superior motivation?? Yeah yeah...that's it. :)

  10. So good to hear from you!!! I wish you the speediest of recoveries!!! I know that PT can be really tough and challenging (I've been through it twice for my knee problems), but it WORKS. Way to push through and keep it up!!!

  11. I was surprised that PT would leave me sweaty too. I used to have it over my lunch and then had to go back to work.

  13. I did the same thing this last fall. I went FOREVER without working out- over a month (!:!) I wondered the same thing. BUT! Here is what I told myself: Our bodies NEED this rest, and NEED this break. (fine, weak, but I had to have something to explain it away, I wasn't injured :))

  14. I think we need these super long breaks and become marshmallows so we have a bit more hunger to get back out there when we DO stop shoving food in the mouth nonstop. At least that's the theory I'm going to go with (oh please oh please oh please make me like running again!). I hope you heal up quickly and can get back out there soon...sounds like your mind is READY, and that's the important part :).

Oh and I heard your neck of the woods is a bit frozen to death right now, so maybe you're not missing too much by wearing 30 layers just to run a few miles! :)
