1. Goals for this race (which is really the ONLY half marathon I have coming up that I was planning to "race") started out pretty lofty. As in:
A Goal - sub 2:05 (requires perfection, I know)
B Goal - sub 2:10 (my training suggests this is completely doable)
C Goal - PR (my current PR is 2:18 - this should be as close to a given as you can get on race day)
2. Unfortunately for all those lofty goals, I've been struggling with the same weird stomach thing that has afflicted 3/4 of my kids this week. Crampy, gurgly, nauseous feeling grossness. So. I'm not giving up on my goals yet, but I'm a little concerned at this point. It's only Thursday. Well see.
3. Saturday night John and i are going to his cousin's wedding. I know I am an old lady, but I'm having a tough time with the current bare-legged trend in dressing "up." I feel weird with no hose. And I have the most bizarre runner tan ever (as in I have blotchy looking skin "calf sleeves"). How do you combat this in a dress and nice shoes? Advice please!
go long....I mean for the dress. but at night I think hose is fine..dark ones
ReplyDeletegood luck for the half I hope your stomach is ready to go!
try BRAGGS ACV in water
ReplyDeleteI hope your tummy is better soon. I don't wear calf sleeves, but I get some really awesome tan lines on my ankle where the sock hits. Just go with it, I doubt anybody will notice.
ReplyDeletehehe, I don't wear calf sleeves either - it just looks like I do since I wear capris and socks (so the only part of my legs that sees much sun is my calves) - it's really an awesome look ;)
Delete:( on the tummy issues.
ReplyDeleteI happen to only wear stuff that requires me to wear black hose. I'm not adventurous and won't go with the bare leg either unless it's a hundred out.
I hope your tummy gets with the program and you have a good race!
When in doubt, just wear compression socks, they go with everything. (also, you got this race in the bag!)
ReplyDeleteDid you forget about our race in just 2 weeks lady? LOL
ReplyDeleteNo, but when I told you I'd run it with you, we were looking at it as a training run to get you used to the distance. It's only recently that you decided to go for sub-2, and I told you then that I don't have that in me in between my 2nd and 3rd 20 of this cycle. I'll be there, running and cheering you on, but not racing...
DeleteNo worries, I won't be hitting that pace so we'll just get the miles in!
DeleteOh, I hate that you're not feeling well, because you're KILLING your training lately. Fingers crossed it's all better by race time!
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the weird tan lines. Try my tall socks/bike shorts combo...I have nice, tan knees. :) I never wear hose, though. Own it, baby! You earned those funky tan lines. And then when people (if people) ask you about them, it's open season to talk talk talk about running!
I hate wearing nylons so if I were you I would go long! Shoot for your A goal...you may surprise yourself!!!
ReplyDeleteHope your stomach issues improve by tomorrow! I dress up everyday for work and wear hose everyday. I feel weird without them. I think I am the only person buying them from our walmart. :)
ReplyDeleteI am doing a half marathon on Saturday as well!! All us cool kids run do a half marathon this weekend.
ReplyDeleteHey girl -
ReplyDeleteYou've got this race . . . kick it's booty!!!! I'm sorry that you have a GI issue (boo to your kids for sharing it!). I'm not a medical professional or anything, but I'm a HUGE fan of taking 2 immodium before half marathons . . . might be helpful just to keep it at bay.
spray tan for your legs? There is an EXCELLENT self tan gel from one of those make up counters at the mall (not Lancome, not Este lauder, not Mac . . . crap what's the other common one - sigh, not Elizabeth Arden, oh geez . . .sorry, not helpful )
Good luck this weekend!!!!!!
If you do go bare legged, at least your tan will make you feel somewhat covered up!!! :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck this weekend!
I don't think I've worn hose in years, not even in winter. Do stores still sell hose? Hum. I have severe sock tan line right now; I worse some rolled up pants and flat shoes out tonight and I'm sure I looked super dorky. Whatever....I am super dorky so all's good! :)
ReplyDeleteGOOD LUCK at the half this weekend!! Geez, it is half racing weekend in blog world!! I don't feel that great about mine either and think I'm just going to sandbag it and enjoy the scenery and not stress. We'll see. But regardless, have fun and I hope you meet your A goal! :)
