A few pictures of our progress before moving on to goals...
I've been really thinking about what I want to accomplish this year. Some of it is just managing to maintain what I've begun. As far as my weight is concerned, I've done remarkably well in that area - My weight hasn't budged, even though my exercise has been sorely lacking. But there are a few things I'd like to do...
1. I already mentioned that I joined Tall Mom's 1000+ mile club. I really want to run MORE this year. I'm not quite ready for speed workouts yet, but I want to up my base mileage. When I told my husband this goal, he looked at me as if I had lost my mind - that's TWICE the mileage I did in 2010 - but if I do 2 marathons per the training schedule I have, and if I manage to stay injury free, this is very doable.
2. I want to lose 8 pounds this year. That will put me right at 150, which is a really good weight for me. I can do this by changing my diet up some more to include less junk food and more veggies and fruits. This will have the added benefit of helping my cholesterol improve.
3. I want to run a marathon in UNDER 6 hours. This is also very doable. And if things go well, we'll talk 5:30.
4. I want to be a better, more organized housekeeper. I suck at this. My plan is to pick 1 room a month to completely overhaul. That's manageable, in addition to keeping up better with day-to-day chores. I have a tendency to let things go til I can no longer stand it and then go crazy but do it all half-assed. If I can keep up, this will no longer happen.
5. I want to spend more one-on-one time with each of my kids. James gets a ton of me, but I need to give more to my other kids too.
6. MORE CROSSTRAINING. Seriously.
That's it for me. I plan on checking in once a month to figure out how well I'm doing. I have other things in my head, but these are the most important to me at this point. I need to step up, because my year hasn't started out so well - I have some catching up to do...
Renos are so much fun ...
ReplyDeleteGo get that 5:30!!!
ReplyDeleteand #5 - awesome. I'm copying that one.
I thought about doing the 1000 club, but reigned myself back. So bravo to you for tackling that goal.
ReplyDeleteIt always helps to make a list of goals, so they're down in black and white and not just floating in your head.
Doesn't this freezing weather just suck?
The reno is coming along nicely!
ReplyDeleteGreat goals! I so need to do #4 as well. But I know I won't. Sigh.
A lot of your goals are the same as mine!! :) Good luck this year!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome goal list! :) I bet you will accomplish all of those!
ReplyDeleteSpending quality time with each kid is a really good idea. I really appreciated it when my parents did that with me!
Spending more individual time with each kid is always on my list too.
ReplyDeleteI suck at housekeeping. Sure my house looks great but that's only until you open a cabinet or closet and have to yell "avalanche" (no joke my kids do that). I think I should probably follow your plan with that too! My problem is that no matter how organized I work to get things there are always 5 other people right behind me messing it all up again.
Your goals are excellent! I love that you've made sure to think practically about them and have plans to check on your progress. I'm super impressed! For #4, check out flylady.net - her program saved my life, seriously.
ReplyDeleteYour basement is going to be absolutely awesome when its done. Wow.
ReplyDeleteI'm shooting for 1000 miles (or more) this year also and I'm glad to hear I'm in good company :) I struggle with cross training as well, I think its easy for runners to get tunnel vision on their running and forget that all that cross training makes you a better runner too. Keep at it and you'll be doing that 5:30 marathon in no time. Happy New Year!
hey, thanks for your comment. You so got exactly what I was saying. Everything. Nothing. All at the same time. It was so nice, for just a minute there I felt like I am OK. Because of you. So, thanks.
ReplyDeleteMy C gets a LOT of my time. When I read your post here, I realized yesterday that I had only said about 8 words to my son, G. Thanks for that mini-wake up.
Listen, the key to that "run a faster marathon" is right at your fingertips. If you run more miles, you're going to run faster. Your body will become more efficient - it's basic physiology. In other words - if you do the 1000 mile club, you'll achieve that other goal, I just KNOW it.
Oh hey - I just went back and read your marathon race report (couldn't bring myself to post this there though, b/c you have 26 comments, and it seemed sacrilegious, that's a runner for you, always worried about number mojo). Wow, just WOW. You're a rock star! Truly. A rock star. What an inspirational story, and what an amazing way to rally at the end. Isn't it funny though, what goes through the mind of the racing marathoner? Congrats on your 2010 accomplishment, sorry it's so very late.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of resolutions ... but, I kinda love your goals for this year, because they seem so achievable ... and they also seem like you'll be a more balanced, happier person if you do achieve them.
