I've been desperate for some new shoes. My current pair have more than 300 miles on them, and for me, that's a LOT. So when John came home from work on Friday and handed me $180 in gift cards to my favorite running store which he'd WON from work, I was over the MOON.
I got a new base layer shirt, new adrenalines, and a pair of adrenaline TRAIL shoes. I am so so excited to run in them!
Then yesterday, I got my bloggy secret santa present! It cam from Aimee who blogs at I Tri To Be Me. (She just completed her first Ironman at IMAZ - if you haven't read her report, you totally should - AMAZING!)
I busted into the box like a little kid!
oooo, a pretty box inside the box!
what's inside?
This is what I saw when I opened it up - LOVE!
this made me cry. yes I am a sap. SO AWESOME!
why yes, it IS right next to a Slayer ornament. (love my hubs.)
her family is gorgeous! and GU!
Lastly (because who knows when I will be able to post again - today is the kids' last day of school for winter break) I was tagged by The Unexpected Runner to share 7 random things about myself. Since I did this recently, and since it IS Christmas time, I'm going with a Christmas theme today.
1. My earliest Christmas memory is sitting crammed with all my cousins in my Grandmother's kitchen singing carols and waiting impatiently. After a bit we'd hear a loud "HO HO HO" and run into the living room to what seemed like a MOUNTAIN of presents! It was magical!
2. My Dad is Polish and my Great-Aunt (who married into the family) was from Japan originally. So early Christmas meals were kind of dyslexic - czarnina next to egg rolls, anyone? But I loved it.
3. I love Christmas music, but prefer it done traditionally. To me, it should be quiet and reflective more than upbeat and peppy (which gets annoying to me every year - please no more Mariah Carey. Ugh.)
4. I used to sing in church choir and midnight Mass was always my favorite. Although I haven't been in many years...
5. Since having kids, Christmas traditions have changed. Now, each Christmas eve, John and I drink lots of wine and wrap presents until the wee hours of the morning. So much that it doesn't even occur to me that I could get the wrapping done ahead of time.
6. When I was a teenager, instead of having a big meal on Christmas eve, my mom would make every delicious appetizer she could think of and we'd munch all evening as people would stop through. I miss this, and hope to resurrect it when my kids are older.
7. I haven't been to Christmas Mass in years. I prefer to spend Christmas morning in my pajamas, surrounded by my family, and just take in the joy on my kids' faces.
Merry Christmas to all of you!!

LOVE that ornament, so sentimental ... and special that Aimee made it. And who can't use more GU!! So glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your Christmas list, so fun. I agree with #7 completely...there's nothing more special than sitting around on Christmas morning seeing the excitement on your kids' precious faces.
Have a VERY Merry Christmas, girl! Can't wait to see where 2012 takes you!
Merry Christmas to you!!! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the ornament! How thoughtful! Merry Christmas to you...wish my break began today!
How awesome that John got those gift cards. Score! What did you get for him from the running store? lol
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the ornament! It looks great!
I really like the peppy Christmas music. But not anything with Justin however you spell his lastname Beaver.
My mom always wrapped all night of Christmas Eve too. You guys are crazy!!!
BROOKS!!! I love Brooks, I am liking the black pair!!
ReplyDeleteAnd what a awesome gift from Aimee, that is awesome, I can not confirm or deny at this time, that I went "awwwwww" after seeing she personalized it
love your gift!
ReplyDeletewhat a sweet and thoughtful gift!
before having my kids I used to be quite sad around the Holidays..I dont know why..I never liked the focus on marerial things...it becomes too much..with my boys things changed
they still believe in the magic and I love that part.
I try to make them take their time opening presents so it does become a day JUST about presents.
That ornament is too cool. What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI like your Christmas facts. This is probably our last year where at least one of the kids still 'believes', so I'm really focused on remembering that when Sunday rolls around. Hate to see that sense of wonder go away.
Are you a size 8 by chance? I've got a pair of trail Adrenalines, a little dusty, but have about 50 miles on them. Just starting using them before I realized they were causing my IT problems. If you (or someone you know) wants them, let me know.
ReplyDeleteJust the other day, I was lamenting that I need a new pair of running shoes. I used to be a New Balance gal, but recently switched to Brooks (and love 'em). C'mon January when I can buy me some new shoes!
ReplyDeleteAwesome ornament and great Brooks shoes! You can never go wrong with Brooks! Best wishes in 2012!
ReplyDeleteMariah Carey makes me want to slit my wrists. Give me the Trans Siberian Orchestra any day!
ReplyDeleteMy mom started a new tradition a few years ago for Christmas dinner--CHILI! We do the big traditional meal at Thanksgiving, so nobody wants all that fuss again at Christmas. She came up with the idea to just fix a big ol' pot of chili a few years ago and everyone LOVED it.
That is a rocking secret santa box! Jealous ...
ReplyDeleteLove the thoughtfulness behind the ornament. Enjoy the new running stuff!
ReplyDeleteHappy and fit holidays to you!
