Yeah, I'm All Over The Place...

Hmmm. I guess in addition to a training break, I've been taking a blogging break too. Truth be told, I stare at this screen a lot and random post ideas flit through my head often, but when I try and put together something cohesive, I got nuthin'. So let's skip the cohesive, shall we?

1. NOT running in effort to have more time for other stuff is ridiculously counterproductive. I spend all my time wishing I'd run. I feel like a lump so I have no energy for chores. So basically, I've succeeded in shooting myself in the foot. MUST REMEMBER THIS.

2. I had the most amazing run with Kim last Friday. I was thinking about running 10, but I knew she was running long, so I asked to join her. It was a gorgeous day! We checked out a new trail. Starting out, I said I'd do 12, but we were feeling good so we made it an even half mary. I faded a bunch at the end (can you say, OUT OF PRACTICE on the long run?!) but I made it farther and felt better than I ever expected. Win!

3. Saturday night we had a DATE! I went to the Blackhawks game, sat 14 rows off the glass, parked like a rock start, and had an all out fabulous time with friends. It could only have gotten better if the 'Hawks had managed a win, but it was a great night out in any case. AND. Jenna babysat. SCORE!

4. Sunday I had a run set up with my friend Sarah, who just started running at the beginning of this year. She was going for 6 miles (she is working up to a 10k) for the first time. In spite of belly issues (GOD do I know all about THAT!) she finished the distance with her legs and lungs feeling strong. SO PROUD! She told me afterwards that I inspire her. That watching me succeed as a runner gave her the confidence to start, mostly because I'm not the stereotypical teeny tiny runner. She called me "realistically inspirational." I like knowing that watching me has given people I know the confidence in themselves to start doing something that I've grown to love. It's a whole new dynamic to my love affair with the sport. And it's kind of like a circle - it's inspiring to ME to see my friends start from scratch. and motivating to help them accomplish their goals.

5. We are all getting excited for Halloween around here. I have succeeded in getting costumes for everyone, on time even, and they are all excited about it. I'm sure you'll be seeing pictures coming up soon - we trick-or-treat on Sunday here, which was weird for me when I first moved into the neighborhood. Do you trick-or-treat on Halloween? Or on a different community designated day?

  1. Go you! Seeing that you've inspired a friend is such sn awesome feeling! Every time I decide I'm going to stop inflicting my run logs on my Facebook friends, someone mentions that I've inspired them to start running. And I definitely think I've got the "if she can do it, anyone can" vibe going.

We trick or treat on the 30th bc our town has s big Halloween parade on the 31st, and everyone goes to that.

  2. I've gotten a few friends into running over the years. It feels so great to help them develop the same love I have for running.

I don't know when trick-or-treating is here. Probably should find out, so Hubby and I can just sit home in the dark eating all the candy for ourselves instead of giving it out. I mean...no, I'd never do that. ;)

  4. Realistically Inspiring! I like that! Very cool :)

I have been staring at a blank wordpress screen lately too. I thought about blogging about our exciting new storm door. But it hasn't even been installed yet. But that is the most exciting thing to happen this week and obviously I can't vent about my sis on my blog. Sigh.

Our run last week was so fun. It flew by! Let's do more long runs together this winter.

I can't wait to see the Halloween costumes! I thought it was weird that Halloween is early out here too. I am not sure what day it is in RL! I won't be here... we are heading to IA to party up with the fam. Ha ha.

  5. Fantastic to be inspirational for friends. All the blogs I read inspire me, yours included.
We are too isolated for trick or treaters to come wondering up and down the dark road a good thing from an annoying perspective but my kids don't get to go out either :-(

  6. Congrats on the long run

I am jealous of you going to the hockey game, hockey is my favorite sport. We are also rivals.

  8. Yes, blog reading is far more fun that decluttering. Any day, any time, trust me.

Yay for the fab long run w/Kim! the temps have been highly conducive lately.

Yay for a Hawks date too! We weren't even married yet the last time we saw one.

We trick or treat on Monday but it seems all neighborhoods around us go on Sunday...not sure what's up yet. Have fun!

  9. Did you know that three out of your five "bullets" were all about running? Girl, it's an important part of who you are and what makes you feel good about yourself. Don't ignore the urge!!!

Hope you had a blast trick-or-treating. Can't wait to see photos!!!
